Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) only lasted one day in the race lead, with five escapees jumping above him on the general classification on Wednesday.
Igor Arrieta (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) won the stage in Potenza, but is 2:51 behind the new race leader, Eulálio.
